Deep down inside the Ross Revenge
Whilst staying on the Ross Revenge in Tilbury a while ago I ventured "down below", as the old saying goes, with video camera in hand. We've added some extra brightness so that the machinery is visible.
I have often wondered what it was like down there when she was in the middle of a storm in far Arctic waters. She certainly did us proud!
Putting up a radio tower at sea
Here's the two radio towers on the Ross Revenge going up during late 1989. Performing this type of work at sea is no mean feat and aerobatic skills were a must.
The tower shown was smuggled out from the English coast, only after being driven along small country lanes sitting on the open top of a double-decker bus owned by a good friend of Radio Caroline, John Burch.
The raid on the Ross Revenge
I managed to take some video footage of that fateful August day in 1989 when the Ross Revenge was raided. They had planned to cut down both radio towers, but eventually settled on just the aerial array.
The deck of the Volans was strewn with equipment as a substantial part of Radio Caroline’s history was unceremoniously dumped on the deck of their tug.
