I was reminded about what nearly caused us to sink one late summer’s day in 1977 by Geoff Hutton, who kindly sent me some of the on-air output describing what was going on. A little bit of Laser 558

Laser led a chequered life at sea with numerous problems, least of all several mast collapses and long periods off the air. Their ship, the Communicator, was far smaller than our massive Ross Revenge and thus suffered greatly in North Sea storms.

Samantha Dubois

Once in a while at sea we would get someone onboard who most of us would remember for a lifetime. On this occasion it was to be Samantha Dubois. She was my best friend. We laughed until we cried at times and to this day, I can still see her face beaming at me from across the table as we joked our way through dinner.
